Culture Note™
Released on 19 May 2025 and part of the The Roger Clubhouse line. This release has a leather upper in White/Evergreen. THE ROGER exists because a tennis player became an owner. On was founded in Zurich in 2010 by former Ironman champion Olivier Bernhard with David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti, built on the CloudTec cushioning Bernhard first mocked up with lengths of garden hose. Roger Federer joined the Swiss brand as a shareholder in November 2019, and the first shoe carrying his name arrived in 2020. The Clubhouse is the relaxed end of that line, and the name is the tell: this is the pair for the terrace and the walk to the court, not the third set. The White Evergreen women's colourway keeps the classic tennis white body and drops in a deep green, the most traditional pairing in the sport and the one that ages best.
Two ways to wear it. First, the clean one: cropped straight jeans or white wide-leg trousers, a fine-knit polo or plain tee, ankle socks, letting the green accents do the only colour work. Second, sporty: a pleated skirt or tailored shorts with an oversized shirt and a cardigan tied at the shoulders, which leans into the tennis reference without turning it into a costume. It suits travel, campus days, brunch and smart-casual offices. On grades the Roger Clubhouse true to size, and Indian stockists run it in UK 5 to 8.5 for women, so check your UK conversion before you buy. Keep white polyester alive with a soft brush and mild soap on the upper, never a machine wash, and let it air dry out of direct sun.
On went from a Zurich start-up to a New York listing in eleven years, raising 746 million dollars in its 2021 IPO and nearly doubling revenue to around 2 billion in the two years after. Federer's arrival as a shareholder was the hinge, and THE ROGER line is where the brand stopped being read as pure running kit and started showing up in places with no finish line. The Clubhouse is the most wearable expression of that shift: a court shoe stripped of performance signalling, sitting in the same lane as every heritage tennis silhouette people wear to lunch. White and evergreen is the colour story that lane was built on, which is why it reads familiar even if you have never watched a match.
On keeps the spec sheet short here, and what it does state is the part that matters. The upper is polyester, so the shoe holds the low, smooth surface a court silhouette needs while staying light on foot and easy to wipe down, which is the real test for anything white. It is made in Vietnam and On describes it as a tennis-inspired lifestyle sneaker engineered with next-gen tech for all-day comfort, which in practice places it on the lifestyle side of the line rather than the competition side: built for standing, walking and long days upright, not for sliding across clay. White carries the body, evergreen handles the accents, and On grades the fit true to size.
