Released on 1 December 2023 and part of adidas's Campus line. This release has a suede upper in Core Black/Cloud White/True Pink. The Campus is one of the adidas silhouettes that never needed reinventing, a suede low-top with a fat tongue and a clean side panel that spent decades moving between courts, campuses and record sleeves without changing shape. The 00s version is deliberately bulkier than the vintage cut, with a longer toe and a heavier profile that reads early millennium rather than seventies. This women's pair runs Black with True Pink, so the classic suede body stays dark and the Three Stripes and heel detail carry the colour. It is the most straightforward way adidas updates an archive shoe: keep the outline, change the proportion, then let a single accent colour set the mood.
Black suede with a pink signal is easy to dress. First recipe: straight or barrel-leg blue denim, a white tank or fitted tee, and a black leather or bomber jacket, letting the pink stripes pick up any accessory in the same family. Second: an ankle-length black slip or midi skirt with a chunky knit, where the low profile keeps the outfit from tipping formal. The Campus 00s runs longer and roomier than the classic, so many people size down half. It is a flat, lightly cushioned shoe, good for city days and bad for hikes. Keep it away from rain, and brush the suede in one direction so the nap stays even.
The Campus sits in the same Originals family as the Superstar and the Stan Smith, the shoes that became the base layer of European terrace and casual dressing and turned adidas Originals into a lifestyle line rather than a heritage archive. adidas entered culture twice, first through sport and then through music it never paid for, when Run-DMC released My Adidas in 1986 and had Madison Square Garden hold their shell toes in the air that July. The Campus rode the same wave from a different angle, adopted by musicians and students rather than athletes, which is why it still reads as personal taste instead of team kit.
Suede upper on a rubber cupsole, which is the Campus formula and the reason the shoe ages well if you treat the nap properly. The Three Stripes are stitched to the quarter panel, doing the structural job they were first added for, and the thick padded tongue and collar carry most of the comfort. Black suede holds its colour but shows salt and water marks badly, so use a suede protector before the first wear and a crepe brush after each outing to lift the nap back. Never soak it.
