Designed by Kanye West and released on 17 June 2022 as part of the Yeezy Boost 700 line. This release has a suede upper in Hi-Res Red/Hi-Res Red/Hi-Res Red. The 700 began as a deliberately awkward tribute to nineties running shoes, launching as the Wave Runner on 12 August 2017 with layered panels and dusty colour blocking that most people initially found ugly and then could not stop buying. HiRes Red inverts that logic completely. Instead of dividing the upper into muted blocks, it floods every panel with one saturated red, so the construction shows up as shadow and stitch lines rather than as separate colours. The name says what the treatment does: maximum colour resolution, minimum variation. adidas terminated the Yeezy partnership on 25 October 2022, so a 700 in this makeup exists now as archive stock rather than a current release.
Utility
A full red chunky runner is the loudest thing you will wear that day, so plan around it. Recipe one: black wide leg trousers with a black tee and a grey coat, letting the shoe be the single colour event from ankle down. Recipe two: raw indigo denim with a cream heavy knit, where the red works as a warm accent against cool blue. Never pair with other reds or with prints. The 700 fits closer and warmer than the knit models, so try a half size up if your foot is wide. Keep the mixed panels dry, dry brush regularly, use a suede brush on the napped sections rather than water, and never machine wash.
Influence
The 700 is the model that proved the drop system could sell a shape people said they hated. It arrived when Yeezy had already made limited releases into public events, with queue culture, bot buying and a resale market that set the true price, and the chunky runner silhouette it popularised went on to define a whole period of mainstream footwear design. GQ in 2016 had already called the line the most influential sneakers around, and the commercial run was later described by Forbes as one of the great retail stories of the century. Kanye West founded and designed Yeezy; adidas ended the partnership on 25 October 2022 after his antisemitic public remarks, calling them unacceptable, hateful and dangerous.
Construction
The 700 is built from layered panels in mixed materials, mesh, suede like surfaces and smooth overlays, stacked into a bulky low profile that holds its shape off the foot. In a single tone those layers stop reading as separate parts and the shoe becomes one sculpted mass, which is the whole idea behind the mono treatment. The sole unit is thick and heavy, and the shoe wears warmer and more substantial than any knit model in the range. No logo appears on the exterior. Mixed materials in one colour also age at different speeds, so the suede like panels will dull before the smooth ones, giving the upper depth over time rather than flattening it.
