Origin
Designed by Kanye West and released on 21 June 2021 as part of the Yeezy Slides line. This release has a eva upper in Enflame Orange/Enflame Orange/Enflame Orange. Enflame Orange is the Slide at its least polite. The model arrived in December 2019 built on subtraction, one moulded shape, thick sole, wide banded strap, no laces, no stitching, no logo, and most of its early colours were quiet minerals: bone, sand, slate. A hot orange does the opposite job, turning a deliberately blank object into something you notice from across a room. On a shape with no detailing at all, colour is the only variable left, which is exactly why the loud versions of this model work better than they should. adidas terminated the Yeezy partnership on 25 October 2022, so this colourway trades as archive rather than as current stock.
Utility
Orange foam is a colour statement, so let it be the only one. Recipe one: black shorts and a black tee, barefoot, so the slide is the single point of colour and the outfit stays simple. Recipe two: grey sweatpants with a white tee and white socks, where the orange lifts an otherwise flat palette without needing anything else. Avoid red, pink or printed clothing nearby. Slides run large, so size down one and check the strap sits across the widest part of the foot. Good for home, poolside, travel and short errands, poor for long walks or wet polished floors. Rinse in cool water, wipe dry, skip solvents, and keep them out of direct sun to protect the colour.
Influence
The Slide is the Yeezy design that ended up everywhere. It crossed out of sneaker culture into general fashion and was copied across the mass market until a thick moulded slide became a normal product rather than a specific one, which is what happens when a shape with no logo becomes recognisable enough to steal. Bright colourways pushed it further into visibility, since they photographed well on the feeds where the model actually spread. Kanye West founded and designed Yeezy, and adidas terminated the partnership on 25 October 2022 following his antisemitic public remarks, which the company described as unacceptable, hateful and dangerous.
Construction
One piece injection moulded EVA foam: the strap, footbed and ridged outsole are all the same body of material with no join anywhere, nothing glued, nothing stitched, nothing lined. The result is very light, effectively waterproof and impossible to delaminate. The footbed carries a light texture for grip against bare skin. A saturated orange hides everyday dust well, though foam scuffs rather than wipes clean and strong sunlight will slowly soften any bright pigment. Fit is broad through the forefoot with an open heel, and the foam feels firm at first before body heat softens it into something that moulds slightly to your step.
