Released on 2 February 2023 and part of Nike's ZoomX Invincible 3 line. This release has a flyknit upper in Noise Aqua/Blue Lightning/Ocean Bliss/Green Abyss. The Invincible exists because Nike worked out that the foam it built for racing could be repurposed for the opposite problem. ZoomX was developed as the lightest and most responsive material in the range and put into the Vaporfly for speed; the Invincible pours it into a tall, soft platform for the days when speed is not the goal and staying uninjured is. The Flyknit 3 is the third pass at that idea. Noise Aqua is its coldest colourway, a pale washed blue-green that sits between grey and water, and it looks more like a design object than a training shoe, which is a large part of why people buy it. Recipe one, running: recovery days, easy long runs and any session where your legs are already tired, worn with a light crew sock and shorts, letting the pale aqua stay visible under a dark kit. Recipe two, casual: grey wide trousers with a white tee and a navy or slate overshirt, where Noise Aqua works as a soft cool accent rather than as sportswear. Size true and pull the laces firm across the midfoot for stability on the tall stack. Take the first few walks carefully while your ankles learn the platform. Clean the knit with cold water and a soft brush only, because pale aqua stains permanently and machine washing wrecks the foam.
ZoomX became famous through the Vaporfly, launched in 2017, where a full length carbon fibre plate and this foam produced results strong enough that peer research found improvements of up to 4.2 percent in marathon times, and World Athletics responded on 31 January 2020 with rules capping sole thickness at 40mm and permitting a single rigid plate. That controversy pulled foam into mainstream conversation. The Invincible is the civilian settlement: same material, no plate, no rules argument, aimed at recovery runs and long standing days. Nike has done this repeatedly since the 1980s, moving a technology from the elite tier to the everyday one, and it is why the brand's innovations do not stay rare.
ZoomX midsole, Nike's altered Pebax foam, used at a tall stack with no rigid plate, so the ride is soft and absorbent rather than propulsive. The upper is Flyknit, knitted as a single piece so it wraps the foot without stiff overlays, sitting in the same design tradition as Flywire, which uses cables instead of upper material to hold the foot and cut weight. Noise Aqua shows the knit structure clearly because the pale tone catches shadow in the stitch pattern rather than swallowing it. That also means it marks easily. A tall soft midsole needs a secure upper to stay stable, so the lacing on this shoe is doing real work, not decoration.
