Origin
Released on 27 February 2025 and part of New Balance's 9060 line. This release has a suede upper in New Spruce/Peach Blossom/Team Royal. New Spruce Peach Blossom is the most deliberately composed 9060 colourway in the range, a deep muted green sitting against a soft warm pink. The shoe is New Balance exaggerating its own 99x running family, the line that began with the 990 in 1982 and ran through the 991, 992, 993 and their revisions, until the panels and the midsole are distorted past the point of quotation. That kind of shape can carry a two colour scheme that a plain runner could not. Green and peach together is a fashion decision rather than a heritage one, and it only reads as New Balance because both tones are muted rather than bright, which is the palette the brand has always trusted.
Utility
Two colours on the shoe means one colour, at most, everywhere else. First recipe: cream wide leg trousers with an olive shirt, letting the green in the shoe answer the shirt while the peach stays as an accent. Second: washed denim with a plain white tee, where both colours read against a neutral field. Avoid competing brights entirely. The 9060 carries mass, so keep legs wide or straight with the hem resting on the shoe. Try before buying if you are between sizes, since it can run long. Protect the peach panels before first wear, brush suede dry rather than washing, and keep them out of sustained sun to slow fading.
Influence
The archive being distorted here was made famous by people who were not styling themselves. Steve Jobs was a documented wearer of the 990, as were Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner and Hilary Duff, and the family became the archetypal American dad shoe, chosen for comfort rather than status. Normcore and then high fashion reclaimed that plainness in the 2010s, and New Balance made the position official when it appointed Aime Leon Dore founder Teddy Santis creative director of Made in USA in April 2021, treating the archive as a fashion line. A green and peach 9060 is what happens once a running archive is being colour styled rather than reissued.
Construction
Layered mesh with suede and synthetic overlays, spruce green carrying the structural panels while peach blossom lifts the base and the trim, with the block N cut into the side wall as a shape rather than a badge. The midsole is the stacked wavy platform with visible ABZORB, New Balance's proprietary foam and rubber polymer blend, engineered to disperse heel strike impact before it travels up into the knees and hips. That is softer and lighter than the ENCAP polyurethane rim and EVA core beneath the 990 and 574, and less structurally supportive, which suits standing and walking. Peach suede is the vulnerable half here, since it shows water spotting as pale rings.
