Black upper, white stripes, scarlet trim. This is the Samba at its most graphic, three values with nothing in between them, and it is the version that photographs hardest. Scarlet on black is a much sharper pairing than red on white, because the dark ground makes the red look brighter than it actually is. adidas has kept this silhouette current for decades by treating it as a surface rather than a project, changing nothing structural and letting colour carry each release. The Three Stripes have anchored that approach since Adi Dassler bought the mark from Karhu Sports in 1952 and started calling the company the three stripes company.
