Released on 15 December 2022 and part of adidas's Gazelle line. This release has a suede upper in Blue Fusion/Footwear White/Gold Metallic. The Gazelle Indoor is the indoor court version of adidas's most familiar suede trainer, built low and flat for the kind of hall sport that needs grip and feel rather than cushioning. It belongs to the same instinct that started the company: Adolf Dassler making purpose built shoes for specific events after the First World War, then registering adidas AG in 1949 and turning that discipline into a catalogue. Blue Fusion with a gum sole is the most useful reading of the shoe, because the blue does the work of a statement colour without shouting and the gum grounds it. This is the trainer that European terrace and casual dressing adopted decades ago, and the colourway keeps that heritage legible rather than costumed.
First outfit: straight leg indigo denim with a decent cuff, a white tee and a navy overshirt, letting the blue on blue play deliberately. Second: cream or stone wide trousers with a grey crewneck sweat, where the blue becomes the only saturated thing you are wearing. Good for daily wear, casual Fridays, gigs and long walking days, less good for wet monsoon streets given suede's relationship with water. Sizing on this silhouette runs narrow and low volume, so if you have a wide foot consider going up half a size. Protect the suede before first wear, brush after each wear, and keep them away from radiators and direct sun so the blue does not fade patchily.
The Gazelle sits at the heart of a shift adidas did not engineer. Alongside the Superstar and the Stan Smith, it became the base layer of European football terrace and casual dressing, worn by people who cared about being correct rather than being current. That is a different kind of cultural power from a signature athlete deal: it is bottom up, regional, and it survives trend cycles because it was never a trend to begin with. adidas Originals exists to keep that language alive, and the Gazelle Indoor is one of its plainest and most durable dialects.
The proportions are the point. A low, flat, unpadded profile puts your foot close to the ground, and the gum rubber outsole named in the colourway is the traditional indoor court solution: soft, tacky, non marking, and it develops a patina rather than staying showroom fresh. The Three Stripes here are structural in origin, bought from Karhu Sports in 1952 and stitched on to reinforce the upper, which is why they wrap the midfoot where the shoe needs support. A blue upper with contrast stripes means dye transfer and scuffing show up quickly, so brush dry, spot clean rather than soaking, and let gum yellow naturally instead of trying to bleach it back.
