Origin
Part of adidas's Samba line. This release has the Sandy Pink/Footwear White/Gold Metallic colourway. Sandy Pink with white and gold is the Samba doing something the original brief never anticipated. This shoe exists because adidas designed for one event at a time, and the event here was football training on frozen ground, which produced a low, thin, slim lasted trainer. The women's OG cut keeps those archival proportions and changes only the palette: a soft dusty pink across the upper, white overlays and gold detailing on the branding. Gold is the tell that this is styled rather than functional, because nothing about a training shoe requires a metallic. What you get is the most recognisable terrace silhouette of the moment in a colourway that dresses it away from sportswear entirely.
Utility
Recipe one: cream or ivory linen trousers with a white shirt, where the pink reads as the only colour and the gold picks up any jewellery you are wearing. Recipe two: a slip skirt in charcoal or black with an oversized grey sweatshirt, using the soft pink to break up a heavy top half. Samba lasts run narrow and long, so a half size down suits slim feet and the leather gives across the width rather than the length. Wear with thin socks so the low collar sits correctly. Construction
The build stays orthodox: leather upper, suede T shaped toe overlay protecting the highest wear zone, Three Stripes stitched through the sidewall doing structural work as well as branding, and a gum coloured outsole with almost no stack. adidas has used the stripes this way since acquiring the mark from Karhu Sports in 1952, and on a shoe this thin they carry real load. Sandy Pink covers the main panels with white on the stripes and the heel patch, and gold appears on the tongue branding and foil detailing, which is a finish that will scuff before the leather does. Expect a flat, firm ride with direct ground feel and a collar that sits low around the ankle.
