Released on 1 May 2023 and part of the AJKO line. This release has a canvas upper in White/Dark Royal Blue/Sail. The KO badge marks the stripped-back branch of the Air Jordan 1 family: the same pattern Peter Moore drew, but built with a lighter, more casual construction than the leather originals, which gives the shoe a softer shape and a different kind of ageing. Kentucky, style code DX4981 103, applies the university blue and white palette to that build on a low cut. Jordan Brand outfits college programmes including North Carolina, Georgetown, Cincinnati and Michigan, so school colour language is native to the house even when the shoe carries no crest. This is a pale blue on a soft build, one of the least aggressive pairs in the entire archive.
University blue and white is a spring and summer palette. Try white or ecru wide trousers, a navy tee and a light overshirt, letting the blue panels echo the top half. For a more casual version, mid-wash denim shorts with a white crew and a plain cap keeps everything cool and simple. Low tops need a sock with heel grip rather than a no-show. Protect before first wear, since pale blue soft uppers water mark easily and rain leaves visible tide lines. Brush dry, clean with a mild solution and a soft brush, and dry away from heat so the softer construction does not stiffen or warp at the toe.
Jordan Brand grew far past a single signature shoe. It became sole equipment provider to the Michigan Wolverines football team in 2016, sponsored Paris Saint-Germain in 2018 as its first association football club, and carries college basketball programmes including North Carolina, Jordan's own university, plus Georgetown and Cincinnati. College palettes on lifestyle shoes come directly from that reach. Underneath sits the original engine: the Air Jordan 1 turned sneaker collecting into a mass activity, helped by Nike's Spike Lee directed advertising, with Lee playing Mars Blackmon, and by rappers including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z.
The KO line's lighter construction means the upper flexes and creases more like fabric than like structured leather, so the shoe softens quickly and sits closer to the foot after a few wears. Kentucky puts university blue against white across the panels, with a white midsole and rubber cupsole underneath. Style code DX4981 103 confirms the release. A softer upper cleans differently from leather: dirt sits in the weave rather than on the surface, so brush dry first and use a mild solution with a soft brush rather than wiping. Pale blue is prone to water marking, so treat with a colourless protector before the first wear.
