Designed by Peter Moore and released on 1 June 2022 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Black/Dark Beetroot/White. Cherrywood Red is a darker, more furniture like red than the gym red the Air Jordan 1 was born in, and that difference is the whole idea. The original shoe carried Chicago's red, black and white, a palette so tied to this silhouette that it works as a brand colour on its own. Cherrywood pulls that red towards brown and deepens it, so the shoe reads warm and grown rather than bright and sporting. The Low is the most wearable cut in the family, the version that sits under a trouser without argument, and style code DC0774 006 places this pair squarely in the everyday end of the line rather than the collector end. It is a red you can wear to work.
Cherrywood works with anything brown or cream. Try stone chinos with a cream knit and a brown leather belt, matching the shoe's warmth rather than contrasting it, or black straight leg denim with a charcoal crew for a version where the red is the only warm note. Avoid orange and bright red anywhere in the outfit. The Low sits neatly under a full length trouser, so no cuff is required, which makes it the easiest cut in the family to dress. Sizing runs long for many feet. Condition the leather occasionally to keep the depth, wipe salt off immediately in wet weather and keep the pair out of prolonged sunlight so the red does not fade uneven.
Red on an Air Jordan 1 is loaded, because the Banned campaign built the brand's identity on it: the league's uniform rule required shoes to be at least 51 percent white, Nike chose to pay the 5,000 dollar per game fine rather than redesign, and turned the whole episode into advertising. The Low keeps the original panel structure, with separate toe, quarter and collar sections divided by visible stitching and the Swoosh running across the side, but the collar drops below the ankle bone entirely, which shortens break in to almost nothing. Expect creasing across the toe box, and expect the fold line on a dark red to darken further rather than crack pale.
