Designed by Peter Moore and part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Oatmeal/Coconut Milk/Oatmeal/Hemp. Most Air Jordan colourways are named for a colour, a team or a material. This one is named for a place, which is a different kind of release: a shoe tied to a local scene rather than a global drop, made for the people who already play and hang out there. That habit only works because the silhouette is universal. The Air Jordan 1 reached the public on 1 April 1985 after Nike gambled on an unproven Bulls rookie because it was losing basketball to Converse and adidas, and it has since become the shoe cities borrow when they want to say something about themselves. The Low is the version that lives outdoors.
Two ways to wear it. First, loose black or grey sweat shorts and a plain tee, the outdoor court fit the shoe is named after, with socks pulled to mid calf. Second, wide leg trousers with a light overshirt, letting the Low keep the ankle visible so a heavy trouser does not swallow your leg. Lows suit heat and long days on foot, which makes them the sensible Indian Jordan for most of the year. Lace snugly since there is no ankle support. Keep them out of standing water, brush after use, and rotate rather than wearing the same pair daily.
Place named releases exist because the Air Jordan 1 created sneaker collecting as a mass activity: original 1985 pairs have traded around 20,000 dollars on StockX and the resale market the model anchors has been valued at roughly 2 billion dollars. Local editions are the brand answering that market on a smaller scale, rewarding people close to a scene rather than fast fingers online. The line's authority behind all of this still comes from Nike's Spike Lee directed advertising, with Lee as Mars Blackmon opposite Jordan, and from hip hop, where 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z made Jordans a permanent reference.
Cutting the 1 below the ankle is what makes a court adjacent shoe wearable all day. The collar sits under the ankle bone, so the shoe flexes freely, goes on fast and pairs with any hem length. The same panel structure that Peter Moore and Bruce Kilgore drew carries over, compressed into a shorter upper, which means each seam and overlay counts for more visually. Lows take more abuse at the toe and the sole edge than Highs do, simply because they get worn harder and more often. Brush dust off weekly, clean the midsole edge before it greys, and let the pair air out fully between wears rather than stacking them straight back in a box.
