Designed by Peter Moore and part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Black/Sky J Orange/Sky J Mauve. SE means the shoe has been given something the standard version does not have, usually a material or detail change rather than a new shape. Sky J Mauve is a soft, dusty purple pink, a tone the 1 could not have carried in 1985 when the model was still basketball equipment and the palette was decided by team colours and a league uniform rule. What changed is scale: Jordan Brand became a standalone Nike division in 1997 and by 2022 was worth about 5.1 billion dollars a year to Nike, which is how a court silhouette ends up available in a colour named after a sky. The Low is the right cut for it, because a soft tone works better with less shoe.
Muted pink is a neutral if you treat it as one. First recipe: grey tailored trousers, white shirt untucked, the mauve reading as a warm grey at the floor. Second: washed black denim with a cream knit, which gives the colour something soft to sit against without matching it. Avoid bright pink or red in the same outfit, they make the mauve look faded. Best for daytime, spring and dry evenings; a Low takes water at the collar so skip it in rain. Size as you would any Jordan 1 Low. Protect the upper with a spray before first wear, spot clean immediately rather than soaking, and keep it out of sunlight, which shifts dusty tones fastest.
The 1's cultural arrival was through hip hop and Nike's Spike Lee directed advertising, and its long tail is a resale market valued around 2 billion dollars. Softer tonal releases like this one belong to a later chapter of that story, the one where the silhouette became a general purpose shape rather than a men's basketball object, worn across a much wider audience than the original marketing imagined. Jordan Brand's roster reflects the same widening, with signed athletes including Maya Moore and Jordin Canada. A mauve Low is the shoe used as fashion, plainly, with no need to reference a game.
Panelled leather construction with the collar cut low, so lacing and the midfoot overlay do the holding. In a muted mauve the panel boundaries are subtle, which shifts attention onto whatever the SE treatment brings, whether that is a material contrast, an extra detail or an alternate finish on the overlays: judge the pair on how those elements sit against the base tone. Rubber outsole with the forefoot pivot circle. Dusty pastels are the least forgiving finish in this model's range, showing both dark scuffs and water marks, and the midsole edge on a Low collects kerb damage fastest. The upper will soften and crease early, which suits a colour this gentle.
