Designed by Peter Moore and part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a suede upper in White/Seafoam/Sail. Seafoam is a colour with no basketball history whatsoever, which is exactly why it works on a low cut Air Jordan 1. The shoe has earned enough recognition to survive being taken anywhere: Peter Moore designed it with Bruce Kilgore, it sold out its initial 50,000 pairs and passed 150 million dollars in sales against a Nike target of three million over three years, and every colourway since has been trading on that outline. Cut to a low, the 1 loses the collar that made it a piece of sport equipment and becomes a shoe you wear because of the shape. A pale mint green is that shape at its least serious and most wearable.
Two recipes. First, white linen trousers with a white or ecru shirt, where the mint reads as a cool accent at the floor and the whole thing works in heat. Second, light wash denim shorts with a navy tee, a straightforward warm weather fit where the shoe supplies the only soft colour. Lows want no show socks and a hem that stops well above the ankle. Size true to length; the low is the one cut of the 1 where going down half a size is defensible for a narrow foot. Spray a protector, wipe with mild soap and a barely damp cloth, and never leave a pastel pair drying in the sun.
The Air Jordan 1 is the shoe that turned sneaker collecting into a mass activity, sitting at the base of a resale market valued at roughly two billion dollars, and it has hosted more design partners than any other silhouette in the line, from Off-White under Virgil Abloh to Dior, Comme des Garcons, Supreme, KAWS and Travis Scott. Pastel general releases are the opposite pole of that same object. They exist because the shape is now common property, legible to people who could not name a single Bulls season. Seafoam is the 1 as a summer shoe, and it takes real brand confidence to allow that.
The low cut changes the fit meaningfully, not just the look. Without the top eyelet row and the collar padding your heel sits lower, the toe flexes further, and the lacing has less range to accommodate a narrow or wide foot. Nike Air cushioning has been in the line since the second model. Seafoam is a soft pastel, which means it will show scuffs as pale bruising rather than as dirt, and the white panelling next to it will yellow at a different rate than the green fades. Protect the upper before first wear, clean marks immediately rather than saving them up, and expect visible vamp creasing on any low within the first week of wear.
