Designed by Peter Moore and released on 7 September 2020 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Washed Blue/White/Blue. Washed blue is the 1 Low treated like a garment rather than a sneaker. The line has always used material to say what a colour cannot: elephant print entered on the Air Jordan III and became a brand code on its own, patent leather arrived on the XI and pulled formal wear material into basketball. A faded, washed finish continues that habit in the opposite direction, taking a shoe with a hard edged history and giving it the softness of something already worn in. The low cut suits that idea, since it is the most casual version of the silhouette and the least concerned with reproducing the original 1985 proportions faithfully.
A faded blue shoe pairs naturally with denim, but not with matching denim. Light wash jeans with a white tee works only if the shoe is clearly darker or lighter; otherwise go to cream or khaki trousers with a navy knit and let the shoe be the softest colour in the outfit. The second option is all white with a light jacket, which makes the wash read as deliberate. Avoid saturated blues nearby. The low cut is a warm weather shoe. Clean with a soft cloth and minimal moisture, since aggressive cleaning strips a washed finish unevenly, and dry indoors away from heat.
Jordan Brand's engineering history is a list of materials brought in from elsewhere: Nike Air from the II, carbon fibre shank plates for torsional stiffness, Kevlar reinforced laces and uppers on the XV, Flyknit uppers from the XXX onward and a laceless FastFit system on the XXXIII. Each of those was a performance answer. Washed and faded finishes are the fashion equivalent of the same instinct, borrowing a process from clothing rather than from sport. It is how a house that spent decades solving basketball problems keeps producing new versions of a shoe that no longer needs to solve any of them.
The washed blue finish gives the upper a faded, uneven tone rather than a flat dyed one, so the panels read as textile rather than as polished leather, with a white base and midsole underneath. The low cut has no padded ankle collar, making the shoe flexible and easy to pack. Style code CZ8455 100. No material weights, stack heights or foam types are published. A washed or faded finish behaves like a garment in wear: it will continue fading unevenly at the flex points and around the toe, which some owners want and others do not, so decide early whether you are protecting it or letting it age.
