Designed by Peter Moore and part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in White/Team Gold/White. Team gold in suede is a very different proposition to team gold in leather. Leather makes a yellow gold look like a jersey colour; suede makes it look like an object, warmer and deeper, absorbing light rather than reflecting it. That single material swap is what SE versions of the Dunk Low exist to do, and it is enough to move the shoe out of sports reference and into something closer to a considered casual shoe. Nike's colour blocking system carries it either way, because the Swoosh, first used in June 1971 and trademarked in January 1974, holds its shape and legibility whatever the surface texture underneath it happens to be.
Wear it with brown or tan trousers and a cream shirt so the suede extends a warm palette and looks deliberate rather than bright. Or contrast it with black denim and a black overshirt, where the gold becomes the single point of light in an otherwise dark outfit. Right for festive occasions, evenings out, dry weather and daytime events. Take your usual Dunk Low size, snug across the instep and true in length. Treat the suede with a protector spray before wearing, brush with a suede brush after each wear, use an eraser on marks, and keep it completely away from rain.
Nike's low top court shoes became staples of mainstream youth dress from the 1980s onward and returned through the casual and athleisure wardrobes of the 1990s and 2000s, and premium material versions are how the silhouette earned a place in adult wardrobes afterwards. Gold is a colour that carries differently in India than in America, where it started as a team palette. Here it reads as warmth and occasion rather than as college sport, which makes a suede execution particularly well suited to festive dressing and to outfits built around earth tones rather than around jerseys.
Suede is the whole story here. It reads richer than leather, it takes a nap that changes tone as it bends, and it ages by developing shine at the flex points rather than by creasing sharply. The panel structure is the standard Dunk Low arrangement with gold overlays framing a lighter base, and the stitching stands out more on suede than on smooth leather. Below is the familiar court build, foam midsole over rubber outsole, following Nike's founding conviction from the waffle iron era that the sole is engineering. Suede is the maintenance cost: water marks it permanently, so this is a dry weather shoe with no exceptions.
