A Year of the Snake edition tells you how far New Balance has travelled from its origins. This is a company that began in 1906 as the New Balance Arch Support Company in the Boston area, selling arch supports to people who spent all day on their feet, and it now designs seasonal releases for calendars its founder never observed. The 9060 is the right silhouette for that job. Built from the panel language of the brand's 99x runners and deliberately distorted, it is the most expressive shape in the modern line, with enough surface and layering to carry a themed treatment without the design collapsing into gimmick.
