Released on 2 January 2025 and part of the Adizero Adios Pro 4 line. This release has a lightlock upper in Cloud White/Core Black/Silver Metallic. adidas exists because of a fight. The Dassler brothers split irreparably in 1947, Rudolf started a rival company across the river in Herzogenaurach, and Adolf registered adidas AG on 18 August 1949, which means the entire company was founded in direct competition. The Adios Pro 4 is where that instinct still lives, the marathon racing shoe at the top of the adizero programme. In White with Black it is the version built to be seen: a bright upper that photographs at a finish line, dark detailing to keep the shape readable, and a sole doing all the actual work. Race shoes are the one category where adidas has never been sentimental.
Two ways. Race day with a singlet and split shorts, where white keeps the shoe visible in every photograph and cool in sunlight. Or a hard weekly session at threshold pace with light kit, saving easy mileage for a cushioned trainer so the racing midsole is not wasted. Do not walk long distances in it. Air the shoe after every run, brush grit off the upper rather than washing it, clean the white with cold water and a soft cloth only, and dry it away from any heat source so the midsole holds its geometry. Track the mileage you put on it, because a racing midsole loses its return long before the upper looks finished.
Road racing has turned into a public technology argument, with shoes discussed the way bikes and rackets are, and adidas chose rods over a plate as its position in that argument. White race shoes have a particular function in that conversation because they are the ones you see in results photographs and start-line footage. Wearing a bright Adios Pro reads as a statement of intent to anyone who follows the sport, and reads as almost nothing to anyone who does not, which is exactly the right ratio for a racing shoe.
The midsole is the argument. adidas builds its adizero competition shoes with thermoplastic polyester elastomer midsoles and embedded carbon rods rather than a single carbon plate, so stiffness can be distributed across the foot instead of imposed as one rigid lever. The upper is deliberately thin and structured only where it must hold, because every gram is measured against pace. A white upper on a shoe like this will look worn quickly, which is expected: this is equipment with a defined life, not a lifestyle sneaker. Size with a full thumbnail of toe room, use thin socks, and keep it for the sessions that deserve it.
