Origin
Designed by Kanye West and released on 12 March 2022 as part of the Yeezy Boost 350 line. This release has a primeknit upper in Core Black/Core White/Core Black. Oreo is one of the founding colourways of the 350 V2, from the first wave after the model launched on 24 September 2016, and one of the very few in the catalogue whose name came from the street rather than from the brand's own terrain vocabulary. Black knit with a white band through the middle, and sneaker culture named it after a biscuit. The 2022 run brought it back near the end of the adidas era, which gives it a strange double status: an early defining pair reissued at the point when the partnership was about to end. It remains one of the cleanest expressions of what the V2 upper can do with two colours.
Utility
The white stripe through black knit is the whole graphic, so keep the outfit uncluttered. Recipe one: black straight leg trousers and a white heavyweight tee, letting the shoe repeat the outfit's own two tones at the floor. Recipe two: dark grey sweatpants with a black bomber, where the white band is the only break in an entirely dark fit. Do not add a third colour below the waist. Influence
The 350 V2 became one of the most recognisable silhouettes of the 2010s and the shoe that made the sneaker drop a mainstream cultural event, with queue culture, bot buying and a resale economy forming around each release. Black and white pairs were the ones that spread furthest, because they crossed into wardrobes that had no interest in sneaker culture at all. adidas terminated the partnership on 25 October 2022 following antisemitic public remarks by founder Kanye West, and later sold through remaining stock, so returns like the 2022 run of this colourway sit right at the edge of the line's commercial life.
Construction
Primeknit builds the upper as a single machine knitted piece, and the white section is knitted directly into the black body rather than stitched or printed on, which is why the transition looks like a gradient of yarn rather than a hard seam. That one piece construction gives the model its sock like entry and its close midfoot hold with no panels or overlays. The midsole is adidas Boost, expanded TPU pellets supplying rebound and the speckled sidewall texture, wrapped in rubber where the shoe meets the ground. A heel pull tab handles entry. Nothing on the exterior names the maker, which is the line's oldest and most consistent rule.
