Designed by Peter Moore and released on 31 March 2025 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Baroque Brown/White/Sail/Black. A mule is a backless shoe, and building one on the Air Jordan 1 for golf is the furthest the model has travelled from a basketball court while still keeping its face. Baroque brown, a deep warm brown, suits that distance: it is a colour from footwear rather than from sport. Jordan Brand has been moving outside basketball since it became a standalone Nike division in 1997, taking on the Michigan Wolverines football programme in 2016 and Paris Saint Germain in 2018, and its golf range is the most lifestyle facing part of that expansion. A brown mule is what happens when a court silhouette is designed for the walk between rounds.
This is a shoe for either end of a round. Wear it with stone technical trousers and a navy quarter zip at the club, or with tan shorts and a white polo in summer, where the brown reads as a considered warm neutral rather than sportswear. Off the course it works as a slip on with cropped chinos. Wear a proper sock; a backless shoe on bare feet will slip and rub. Keep it off wet grass where possible, dry naturally away from heat, and store flat so the collarless heel opening does not deform.
Golf specific Jordans exist because the brand outgrew its origin sport. By 2022 Jordan Brand was generating about 5.1 billion dollars for Nike, with a reported 150 to 256 million dollars going to Michael Jordan under the royalty arrangement he negotiated in 1984, and that scale supports categories that a signature basketball model never could. Golf also happens to be the sport most associated with Jordan after his playing career. A backless mule in baroque brown is aimed squarely at the clubhouse rather than the fairway, which is a market Jordan Brand can address and few sneaker labels can.
The mule keeps the front of the 1 intact, the stitched toe cap, eyestay and Swoosh you already know, and removes the heel counter so the shoe can be stepped into. That changes the fit fundamentally: there is no rear lockdown, so lacing and the instep do all the holding, and it is not a shoe for walking distance at pace. The outsole is built for turf grip rather than hardwood. Brown uppers hide grass stains better than white ones but pick up water marks, so let them dry naturally and use a leather safe conditioner rather than a general cleaner.
