Culture Note™
Part of On Running's Cloudmonster line. This release has a mesh upper in Undyed White/White. The Cloudmonster is On's answer to a simple question: what happens if you take CloudTec and make it enormous. It is the Swiss brand's max-cushioned road shoe, catalogued internally as product style 61, and On pitches it in a single line, max-cushioned running shoes meet monster-level bounce and energy return, for a fun, forward-rolling ride. Article 61.98288 is the men's pair, listed in On's own catalogue under the colour name Undyed-White | White. Exclusive is On's shorthand for a colourway it holds back for account holders and limited launches rather than putting straight on the open shop floor, which is why a pair like this circulates through resale long after the standard colours have moved on. It sits at the cushioned end of On's road line, not the racing end.
Two ways to use it. First, the job it was built for: easy daily mileage and long runs on road and concrete, where the Helion foam and 6 millimetre drop let you stay comfortable well past the point a firmer trainer starts punishing your legs. Second, the off-duty use most Cloudmonster buyers actually get out of it, long travel days and full days on your feet, worn with tapered joggers or straight-leg denim so the chunky midsole reads as intentional rather than accidental. On lists the Cloudmonster as true to size, so order your normal running size, but note there is no wide option, so wide feet should go half a size up. If you buy On Cloudmonster shoes in India, clean the polyester upper with a soft brush and cool water, and never machine wash them.
On built its whole identity on one visible idea, the hollow CloudTec pods under the foot, and the Cloudmonster is the loudest version of it. The pods are oversized and fully exposed, which is why the shoe reads instantly from across a room and why it crossed out of running clubs into everyday rotation faster than most max-cushion trainers. That crossover is the point. A shoe engineered around energy return and a forward-rolling rocker ended up being worn by people who never race, because deep cushioning and a soft step-in translate perfectly to standing all day. Add the Exclusive colourway culture, where limited runs go to members first, and a specific article like 61.98288 becomes something collectors track rather than just another pair of trainers.
Underneath is the biggest CloudTec cushioning On puts on a road shoe, with Helion superfoam absorbing impact on landing and a Speedboard running through the midsole. That board bends at the forefoot to store energy and releases it at the moment of push-off, which is what turns deep cushioning into propulsion instead of mush. The numbers stay sane: 275 grams for a men's pair and a 6 millimetre heel-to-toe drop, so you get max cushion without being stood up on a wedge. A bold forefoot rocker delivers real toe spring and rolls you through the stride rather than making you fight the transition. The upper is 100 percent polyester across vamp, tongue and vamp lining, breathable and temperature resistant, over a soft sockliner and an easy step-in.
