Part of the The Roger Centre Court line. This release has a mesh upper in White/Indigo. On started in Zurich in 2010, when Olivier Bernhard, a former Swiss Ironman champion, glued sections of a cut garden hose to a sole to test whether a hollow shape could land soft and push off hard. He had taken the idea to Nike and been turned down, so he built it himself with David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti. The Roger is the other half of the company's story. Roger Federer became a shareholder in November 2019, and the shoe carrying his name arrived as a limited edition in July 2020, the point at which On stopped reading only as a runner's brand. Centre Court is the tennis facing shape in that family, and White Indigo keeps it deliberately quiet: a clean white body with deep blue placed where a court shoe has always carried its accent.
White and indigo is the easiest pairing On makes. Run it with raw indigo denim and a white crew tee so the shoe and the jeans finish the same sentence, or go with cream pleated trousers and a navy overshirt when you want the blue to read as tailoring rather than sport. It suits travel days, long city walks and offices that stopped enforcing a dress code, and it sits comfortably under a suit trouser if the hem is short. Take your usual sneaker size and expect a snug midfoot on a court last, so size up half if you wear thicker socks. Keep the white honest: brush the upper dry, use a foam cleaner and a soft brush on scuffs, and clear grit out of the outsole pods so they keep compressing properly.
On was already deep in endurance sport, sponsoring the On Athletics Club under coach Dathan Ritzenhein and growing out of triathlon and road running, but the Federer partnership is what carried the brand into mainstream wardrobes. A tennis roster followed, with Iga Swiatek, Ben Shelton and Joao Fonseca signing from March 2023. The result is a brand whose cultural weight sits closer to design object than to streetwear: people wear it because it looks engineered, and Centre Court is the most legible piece of that argument.
Court shapes ask for something flatter and calmer than a race runner, and this one is built to that brief rather than to a split time. The white upper is the whole proposition, so the indigo works as punctuation on the branding and heel instead of a wash of colour. Underneath sits CloudTec, On's house code and a structural cushioning system that shapes foam into engineered pods rather than leaning on the foam alone, compressing both horizontally and vertically as you load it. On a lifestyle court silhouette that reads less as propulsion and more as a soft first step that holds through a full day of standing. On is Swiss designed and run out of Zurich, with production in Indonesia and Vietnam.
