Black and red is the founding colour story of the Air Jordan line, and satin is the material that keeps rewriting it for women's releases. Nike signed Michael Jordan in 1984 and built an entire business around him, marketing it with Spike Lee directing and playing Mars Blackmon, which turned a basketball shoe into the most discussed object in American youth culture. This women's Retro High OG takes that colour story and swaps the texture, replacing the expected leather with satin so the light behaves differently across every panel. The shape stays exactly as it was drawn: high collar, wing logo panel, the same profile people have argued about for four decades. Only the surface changes, and it changes everything.
Wear it with black wide leg trousers and a red or burgundy knit so the colourway repeats upward, which is the cleanest way to style a loud high top. Or go against it: a black slip dress with an oversized leather jacket, where the satin picks up the same light as the dress and the shoe stops looking sporty entirely. Good for nights out, events and anywhere you want the shoe seen. Jordan 1 highs fit true to length but snug across the toe; lace to the second eyelet from the top if you want ankle movement. Keep satin dry, brush gently, and never scrub it.
The Air Jordan is the shoe that carried Nike out of sport and into culture, first through basketball and then through hip hop, where it became a status marker rather than equipment.
