Designed by Peter Moore and released on 20 April 2024 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Legend Sand/Jade Smoke/Sail/Muslin. Method of Make is Jordan Brand's women's design programme, and it changes what an Air Jordan 1 is for. The silhouette is Peter Moore's, drawn with Bruce Kilgore before the shoe reached the public on 1 April 1985, but the palette and material choices come from a design conversation the original never had. Jade Smoke is exactly that: a muted green grey that belongs to a wardrobe rather than a team. Since Jordan Brand became a standalone Nike division in 1997 it has carried its own roster and its own apparel, including WNBA athletes Maya Moore and Jordin Canada, and Method of Make is where that widening becomes a design language instead of a marketing line.
Soft green is easier than bright green. Recipe one: cream wide leg trousers, an oatmeal knit, and a long camel coat, where the Jade Smoke sits in a warm neutral stack without fighting it. Recipe two: black slim jeans tucked at the collar with an oversized grey sweatshirt, letting the muted green be the only colour. Lace fully for support or loosen the top eyelets for the classic slouch. True to size for most, half up if wide. Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap only, avoid solvents, dry away from heat, and use shoe trees, because a High creases across the vamp harder than a Low does.
Jordan Brand's move toward women runs alongside its music collaborations, with Billie Eilish and Nicki Minaj both working with the brand as artist collaborators, and its WNBA roster including Maya Moore and Jordin Canada. That is a very different audience to the one Spike Lee's Mars Blackmon advertising spoke to, or the one 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z addressed when they put the shoes into their verses. The Air Jordan 1 made sneaker collecting a mass activity and anchors a resale market valued at roughly 2 billion dollars. A Method of Make High is that same shape aimed at people the original marketing never considered.
The High is the original cut, collar above the ankle with a padded top line, and it is the proportion the model was drawn to. Jade Smoke works across the panels as a soft, low chroma green, which is a harder blocking job than a two colour split because the shape has to be read through subtle tonal shifts and stitching rather than contrast. Style code FB9891 104 identifies this pair. Muted greens are pigment sensitive, so keep them out of long direct sun and away from solvent based cleaners, which pull colour out of a soft finish faster than they lift dirt. Expect the usual Air Jordan 1 High break in before the collar softens.
