Released on 1 June 2023 and part of the Air Jordan 1 Zoom line. This release has a leather upper in Gym Red/Black/Summit White/Earth/Coconut Milk. A Rose From Harlem is a title with a neighbourhood in it, and it lands on the Zoom Air CMFT 2 build, which is the modernised version of the Air Jordan 1 High. That combination is telling. The original shoe was drawn by Peter Moore for a Chicago Bulls rookie and released on 1 April 1985 as court equipment, and everything expressive about it since has come from people outside the sport claiming it. New York was one of the first places that happened, through hip hop, with 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z writing Jordans into music long before any artist signed a contract with the brand.
A High with a personal title should be the only reference in the outfit. Black wide leg trousers, a plain tee and a single overshirt gives the shoe room without crowding it. The second recipe is softer and warmer: a long coat over straight jeans, the collar visible above the hem, which is the most flattering way to wear any Air Jordan 1 High. Because the Comfort build is genuinely wearable, this is a long day and travel pair rather than a shelf piece. Lace fully for structure, keep the tongue and any printed detailing dry, and clean with a barely damp cloth rather than a stiff brush.
Jordan Brand runs a formal artist programme now, with Drake, Billie Eilish, J Balvin, Eminem and Nicki Minaj among its named music collaborators, alongside Travis Scott's Cactus Jack work across the Air Jordan 1, 4 and 6 and design side partnerships with Off-White under Virgil Abloh, Dior, Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS. This shoe carries a personal title in that same tradition, where the name on the box belongs to a cultural figure rather than a team. The Jumpman is now a mark people borrow to say something specific about where they are from.
The Zoom Air CMFT 2 build is the reason to pick this over a straight retro High. Nike Air cushioning entered the Jordan line with the Air Jordan II, and the Comfort family carries a modernised version of that thinking into the original silhouette, which means a softer ride under a shape that was engineered in 1985. You get the tall Air Jordan 1 profile with ankle coverage and a break in that is shorter than a full OG retro. Colour and material detailing carry the concept rather than any change to the sole unit. Check which panels are textile and which are leather, and let the softest one dictate how you clean the whole shoe.
