Released on 23 September 2024 and part of New Balance's 9060 line. This release has a leather upper in Sea Salt/Marsh Green/Calcium. Sea Salt with Marsh Green is a coastline in two colours, a pale warm off white against a deep muddy green, and it gives the 9060 a landscape reference rather than a sportswear one. That suits the silhouette. Built from the panel vocabulary of New Balance's 99x runners and deliberately swollen and curved, the 9060 has always looked more geological than athletic, and an earthy green makes that reading explicit. The brand behind it is now a roughly 6.5 billion dollar business with around 8,000 employees, still privately held, which is a rare position: large enough to design freely, independent enough not to design by committee.
Utility
Green and off white wants natural fabrics around it. Recipe one: ecru linen or cotton trousers with a white tee, a warm weather look where the marsh green becomes the only depth in the outfit. Recipe two: dark denim with an olive overshirt, echoing the green once so the pairing reads as intentional. Avoid black, which kills the softness of the sea salt tone. Construction
The upper layers mesh and suede in two clearly separated tones, sea salt carrying the base and marsh green picking out the overlays, mudguard and heel, so the panel structure that gives this silhouette its shape is easy to follow. Two tone builds age unevenly, since the pale sections show soiling first while the dark ones show salt marks, and both need different treatment.
