Part of the Duramo Slides line. This release has the White/Dark Navy colourway. The Duramo slide is the least romantic shoe adidas makes and one of the most worn. It exists for the moment after sport: the walk from pool to changing room, from ground to bus, from bathroom to bed. adidas has made that shoe in some form for decades, because a company that started by watching athletes eventually notices what they put on when the session ends. The Duramo strips the format down to essentials, one moulded strap across the foot and a sole shaped to the arch, and sells it in volume rather than as a statement. It carries the Three Stripes across the strap, which is the only concession to identity, and it is enough. Everyone recognises it from across a locker room.
Utility
Two uses. First, the intended one: gym bag, pool deck, hostel bathroom, worn barefoot and rinsed under a tap. Second, the styled one: with a thick crew sock, loose shorts or track pants and an oversized tee, which is now a legitimate summer look rather than a compromise. Best in heat, monsoon commutes and anywhere you need to dry fast. Slides run large, so most people go a half size down from their trainer size. Care is simple: rinse in cold water, wipe the footbed, air dry out of direct sun because prolonged UV hardens the foam, and do not leave them in a hot car boot where the footbed can deform.
Influence
adidas's cultural reach came from sport and from music, but its everyday presence in places like India comes from exactly this kind of product: cheap, durable, recognisable, worn by people who may never buy a Superstar. The company runs India as a priority growth market with local ambassadors rather than imported ones, signing Ranveer Singh in 2015 and running a cricket campaign fronted by Virat Kohli before he moved to Puma in 2017. Those campaigns sell aspiration, but the slide sells access: three stripes at a price that puts the mark on a real number of feet. That breadth is the quiet half of why the logo reads as universal.
Construction
A slide is a single piece problem: the strap has to hold without pressure points and the footbed has to stay grippy when wet. adidas builds the Duramo with a moulded synthetic strap and a contoured footbed that sits your arch rather than leaving it flat, which is why these stay comfortable for far longer than the price suggests. The Three Stripes across the strap are moulded in rather than applied, so there is nothing to peel off after a season of chlorine and shower floors. The whole shoe is designed to be rinsed and forgotten, which is a real engineering brief and not a lesser one. Judge it by how it behaves on a wet tiled floor.
