Origin
Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 28 November 2025 as part of the Air Jordan 4 line. This release has a nubuck upper in Black/Black/Light Graphite. Black Cat is the Jordan 4 with the volume removed and the engineering left in. Where most 4s use colour to separate the netting, the wings and the midsole, this one collapses everything into a single dark tone so you see the model as a shape rather than as a set of parts. That is a very Tinker Hatfield idea: the design series he shaped from the third model onward always treated the shoe's structure as the message, from the elephant print of the 3 through the carbon fibre shank plates and Kevlar reinforcement that arrived in later models. A monochrome 4 is that philosophy at its most confident, since it has nothing to hide behind.
Utility
This is the most versatile Jordan 4 to dress. Wear it with black tapered trousers and a charcoal knit for a full monochrome outfit where the tooling provides all the texture, or with dark indigo denim and an olive jacket if you want one colour in play and the shoe grounding it. It handles evening dressing better than any other 4 colourway. Cuff or crop the hem so the wings stay visible. Take your usual size, allowing for a narrow midfoot. Brush the netting dry, avoid wet cleaning on textured panels, keep them off wet ground since dark midsoles still stain, and store them upright.

That audience exists because the line grew far past basketball, becoming a standalone Nike division in 1997, taking on the Michigan Wolverines football programme in 2016 and Paris Saint-Germain in 2018, and building an athlete roster that spans the NBA, NFL, MLB and WNBA. The 4 in particular stays in the current conversation through collaboration, with Travis Scott holding Cactus Jack versions of the 1, the 4 and the 6. Construction
The 4 combines mesh netting panels for airflow, plastic winged eyelets for adjustable midfoot tension, a moulded heel counter and a sculpted midsole with Nike Air cushioning, which entered the line from the second model. In a single tone, the material differences read as texture rather than as colour blocking, so the nubuck like panels, the netting and the moulded parts each catch light differently. Dark uppers hide scuffs but show dust clearly, so brush after wear. Lace evenly through the wings rather than tightening one side, and expect a slightly narrow midfoot. The shoe sits taller and feels more supported underfoot than a Jordan 1.
