Designed by Peter Moore and released on 7 September 2023 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in Summit White/Hyper Royal. White with a single strong colour is the oldest way Nike has sold a court shoe, going back to a time when a basketball shoe existed to match a uniform and nothing else. The Dunk Low in White and Hyper Royal is that formula in its cleanest form: a white base with a saturated royal blue at the Swoosh and overlays. Nike had roughly half the US athletic shoe market by 1980 partly because it understood this kind of simplicity, and the Dunk has survived every shift in taste since by refusing to complicate itself. There is no story to buy into here, only proportion and colour.
Two combinations. Summer clean: light chinos or shorts, a white tee and white crew socks, with the royal blue as the only colour anywhere. Denim classic: mid wash straight leg jeans and a navy crewneck, where the blue overlays pick up the denim without matching it. Suits daylight, warm weather and long walking days. Dunks run slightly long, so half down for a snug fit. Protect the white leather before first wear, clean it with mild soap and a soft brush the same day it gets dirty, use a dedicated sole cleaner on the midsole, and stuff the toe box when storing to slow creasing.
Nike became a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion from the 1980s, carried by Air Jordans, Air Force 1s and Air Max models, and the Dunk arrived at mass adoption much later, returning through casual and athleisure dressing. Its revival has been driven almost entirely by colour blocking, and white with a single bright is the base case that everything else is measured against. It is the pair people buy first and replace rather than retire, which is a different kind of importance from the collaborations.
A panelled leather style upper with the Swoosh working as the divider between the white base and the blue overlays, a padded collar, a foam sockliner and a flat rubber cupsole with a court pattern underneath. Two tone builds like this are the easiest version of the silhouette to read at a distance, because the blue traces the shoe's outline and makes the geometry obvious. No Air unit, no plate, nothing exotic: the Dunk stays low and firm, which is why it is comfortable standing all day and unremarkable to run in. White leather panels crease visibly across the toe, so the toe box is where this pair will show its age first.
