Released on 6 July 2023 and part of the Arahi 7 line. This release has a knit upper in Blanc De Blanc/Virtual Blue. Blanc De Blanc with Virtual Blue is a champagne borrowed name on a support shoe, an off white body cooled by a clear blue, and it is one of the more considered ways the Arahi 7 has been finished. The Arahi is where Hoka's founding logic, an oversized cushioned outsole engineered in Annecy so two ex Salomon trail runners could descend faster, gets rebuilt for runners whose feet want guidance. In this colourway the shoe reads soft rather than corrective. The exaggerated sidewall is pale enough to look like part of a wardrobe, and the blue only appears where the branding and accents land, which keeps the whole silhouette calm.
Recipe one, soft neutrals: off white or stone trousers, a pale blue oxford shirt to pick up the Virtual Blue accents, and the shoe becomes the base of a tonal outfit. Recipe two, training: navy shorts and a white tee, where the blue reads as kit rather than styling. It suits long standing days, steady road runs and travel, particularly if your foot tends to collapse inward and a neutral shoe leaves you sore. Fit true to size and leave a thumbnail at the toe. Pale uppers need maintenance, so wipe them after each outing, use a foam cleaner rather than water alone on the midsole, and rotate pairs to let the cushioning recover.
Hoka's story is a series of crossovers. It began as a deliberate contradiction, arriving in 2009 with midsoles two to three times thicker than normal while the industry chased barefoot style minimalism, then built credibility in ultra and mountain racing. The second wave was healthcare, where staff on twelve hour shifts adopted the cushioned models by word of mouth, and the third was fashion. A support model in a soft off white belongs to the middle of that arc: bought for what it does across a long day on your feet, styled so it does not announce that it is a corrective shoe. That is the version of Hoka most people now own.
Hoka's approach to support avoids the stiff medial post that stability shoes traditionally used. The brand's patented J-Frame places a J shaped band of firmer foam along the inside edge so the shoe resists rolling inward while the rest of the ride stays soft. Combine that with the house geometry, a low heel to toe drop under a rounded sole, and you get guidance that still moves you forward instead of holding you still. The heel sits inside the midsole walls rather than on top of them. Blanc De Blanc is a pale finish that will mark, so protect the upper before the first wear, clean spots on the day, dry in shade, and keep it out of the machine entirely.
