Designed by Bruce Kilgore and released on 14 January 2026 as part of Nike's Air Force 1 line. This release has the University Red/University Red-Black colourway. Bruce Kilgore drew the Air Force 1 in 1982 as Nike's first basketball shoe with Air in the sole, and the first Nike sneaker built with slip-lasted construction, where the upper is pulled tight over the last and fixed to the midsole for a more flexible ride. Nike discontinued it two years later. Three Baltimore retailers, Charley Rudo, Cinderella Shoes and Downtown Locker Room, talked the company into producing exclusive colorways for the East Coast, which is how the shoe earned its Uptowns nickname and never went away again. This women's Valentine's edition, style code IQ9965-600, is the softest thing that heritage has been handed. University Red head to toe with black holding the structure, released in mid-January ahead of the holiday it is named for.
Two ways to wear it. First, tonal and grown: black wide-leg trousers, a black rib knit, silver jewellery to echo the locket, and let the red do all the work from the ankle down. Second, the easy one: light-wash straight jeans, a cream oversized hoodie, and one red pickup higher on the body, a cap or a bag, so the shoe is not stranded. Air Force 1s run slightly large, so wide feet should stay true to size while narrow feet usually want half a size down. This is a women's-sizing release, so men converting should subtract about one and a half US sizes. Unclip the locket before cleaning, brush the upper with sneaker cleaner, and save the eraser for the midsole.
The Air Force 1 moves an estimated ten million pairs a year, which makes it less a sneaker than infrastructure. It got there through music: Jay-Z wore it, Nelly built a 2002 single around it, and London's grime scene carried it forward through artists like Dizzee Rascal. Every seasonal execution Nike puts on this silhouette inherits that weight, which is why an all-over heart motif here reads confident rather than cute. The women's-exclusive sizing and the detachable locket are the tell: this is aimed at people who want a gift-shaped sneaker they will still wear in June. It arrived as a general release through Nike and the big chains, so the flex is in how you style it, not in how you got it.
University Red covers the upper with black picking out the structural lines, and heart motifs run continuously from toebox to heel so the surface reads as texture from across a room and as detail up close. They carry across the base, the Swoosh, the tongue, the eyestays and the heel. Nike Air is embroidered on the heel panel. The sole is red rubber, and underneath sits the same encapsulated Air that made this silhouette matter in the first place. Pull the sockliner into view and there is Cupid artwork on the insole. The back of the tongue reads Love Is In The Air, written like a quick note instead of branding, and a removable chrome heart locket clips onto the laces so the theme is optional.
