Designed by Peter Moore and released on 21 December 2023 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in Sport Red/Sheen/Sail/Medium Brown. The Dunk is a basketball silhouette that survived by becoming a colour blocking exercise, a flat leather court shape whose panels exist to be filled in. Bacon fills them in somewhere no hardwood ever went. Pale streaky pink sits against cured brown across separate overlays, so the toe, the Swoosh and the collar read as different cuts of the same slab, and the name is doing exactly what it sounds like it is doing. This is Nike making a joke with a straight face, which is a very old habit at a company that started with a coach pouring rubber into his wife's waffle iron because he thought American runners deserved better. Carolyn Davidson's Swoosh, first used in June 1971, is the only thing here not playing along.
Two routes. Ecru wide leg denim, a chocolate brown ribbed knit and a cream barn jacket keeps the whole thing inside the palette and lets the pink read as the softest note in the outfit. Or go hard against it: black straight trousers, a white tee, no other colour anywhere, so the shoe is the only warm thing you own that day. Best worn dry, on pavement, in daylight where the streaking actually reads. Sizing on the Dunk runs long and narrow through the toe box, so a half size down is common on the women's last if you have a slim foot. Store them out of direct sun, because the pale pink is the panel that will yellow first.
Nike learned early that people adopt shoes for reasons the marketing department did not write down. Air Jordans, Air Force 1s and Air Max models became staples of urban and hip hop dress from the 1980s onward, then came back through 1990s and 2000s casual wear, and the Dunk rode that same current from gym floor to street. Food named colourways belong to the internet era of that story, where a shoe is discussed and screenshotted before anyone has held one. The company that gave you Just Do It, written by Dan Wieden in 1988 and now sitting in the Smithsonian, is comfortable letting a product be talked about entirely on its own terms.
A premium make up on the women's last, which means the leather and suede panels are the point rather than the substrate. Layered upper, foam collar, rubber cupsole underneath, and a palette that puts the lightest pink on the most exposed surfaces. Practically, that is the thing to plan for: pale pink panels pick up transfer from dark denim and kerb dust faster than any other part of the shoe, while the brown sections hide everything. Brush the nap on the suede sections dry, never wet, and treat the pink with a protector before the first wear rather than after the first mark. The cupsole keeps you low and flat to the ground, so expect a stiff first week and a shoe that stays firm rather than cushioned.
