Designed by Peter Moore and released on 30 May 2023 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in Oxygen Purple/Citron Tint/Summer White. Nike arrived in India in 1995 through a licensing agreement with Sierra Industrial Enterprises, now SSIPL, long before it set up its own subsidiary, and grade school releases have always been the part of the range that reaches the widest audience in markets like this one. This Dunk Low SE is an Easter makeup built on the GS last, which means the pastel palette that defines the season gets the same panelled leather treatment as the adult line. Easter colourways are a fixed part of Nike's calendar for a simple reason: the silhouette's panel blocking suits soft tones better than almost any other shape, because each pastel gets its own defined area instead of blending into the next.
Two ways to wear it. Keep it light: white or cream trousers with a pastel tee in one of the shoe's own tones, so the whole fit sits in the same register and the panel blocking reads clearly. Or ground it: light wash denim and a plain grey sweatshirt, letting the pastels do all the colour work at the bottom. Suits spring and summer, school and campus, weekends and travel. GS sizing runs narrower than adult sizing, so anyone crossing over from men's sizing should go up half a size and check width. Care is the real commitment with pale leather, because pastels show dirt faster than white does: wipe after every few wears, treat marks immediately, and keep them well away from wet mud.
Pastels changed the Dunk's audience. The silhouette entered mainstream dress because Nike's basketball models became status objects in urban and hip hop fashion from the 1980s and then reappeared as casual staples, but the current run has been driven by colour rather than by sport reference. Seasonal soft palettes are the clearest example: nobody is claiming a team, and everyone can read the reference. Grade school releases carry additional weight in sneaker culture because they are where most people meet a silhouette for the first time, at a price that makes the shape reachable. That is not a lesser version of the story, it is where the story usually starts.
A grade school build of the Dunk Low with SE detailing, which in Nike's naming signals a material or finish upgrade over the standard version. The upper carries a pastel palette across the panelled leather, with the Swoosh, toe overlay, eyestay and heel each able to take a different tone thanks to the way the shoe is cut and stitched. GS tooling is proportionally scaled from the adult version, so the forefoot runs narrower and the collar sits slightly lower. Padded collar, flat woven laces and a foam sockliner make it comfortable immediately. The tread pattern descends from Bill Bowerman's waffle sole work and grips well on tile and concrete, which is where these actually get worn.
