Origin
Designed by Peter Moore and released on 27 July 2023 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in Black/Black/White. Panda is the name the street gave black and white Dunks, and it stuck because nothing describes the shoe faster. This one arrives as a Twist, which means the weight of the design sits on the Swoosh rather than on the panelling beneath it. Nike's mark was drawn by a graphic design student, Carolyn Davidson, first used on 18 June 1971 and registered as a trademark on 22 January 1974, and it has been carrying colour blocked leather ever since. The Dunk Low is a basketball shape Nike never needed to redraw for the pavement, because black over white is the loudest quiet shoe you can wear. The Twist version keeps that logic and unsettles it slightly, so you get the familiar read with a second look built in.
Utility
Two ways to run it. First, black straight leg denim, a white tee and a black overshirt, letting the shoe's split echo the outfit so the whole look reads as one idea. Second, grey tailored trousers cropped just above the ankle with a black knit, where the white base breaks up an otherwise heavy silhouette. This is an everyday shoe for college, office Fridays and long walking days, not for rain or dust. Dunks fit close through the midfoot and true to length for most feet, so go with your normal size and lace it properly rather than sizing up. Construction
Leather does the talking here. The two tone split relies on panels holding their edge, so the black overlays need to sit crisply against the white base or the whole effect collapses. Bill Bowerman poured rubber into his wife's waffle iron because he thought the ground contact of a shoe was engineering rather than trim, and that habit still governs how Nike builds a low top court sole: foam underfoot for daily standing, rubber below it for grip on smooth indoor floors. Expect a padded collar and tongue, the standard of the basketball era, which is why this silhouette survives long days better than most fashion sneakers. Black panels hide scuffing; the white base does not, and that trade off is the shoe's honest cost.
