Nike SB took the Dunk because skaters had already taken it. The shoe's flat sole, wide platform and two layer leather build suited a board better than most purpose made skate shoes of the time, and the SB programme simply added padding and cushioning where skating punished the foot. The SB version of the Dunk changes the shoe in three specific ways: a thicker, padded tongue that takes the pressure of tight lacing and board impact, a Zoom cushioning unit under the heel, and a more forgiving upper.
