Part of Nike's Air Max Muse line. This release has a synthetic upper in Black/Oil Green/Metallic Silver/University Red. Nike's women's side has a deeper athletic backbone than the marketing usually shows, running through Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Allyson Felix in track and Serena Williams as an endorser, all of whom the company sponsored. The Air Max Muse belongs to the fashion end of that lineage rather than the competitive one: a women's silhouette built around the Air Max family's central idea, cushioning you can see. Metallic Oil Green is its most unusual dress, a dark green with an oil slick sheen that shifts toward bronze and blue depending on the angle. It is a finish rather than a colour, which is a deliberate choice on a shoe designed to be looked at.
An iridescent shoe is jewellery, so treat it that way. Wear it with black tapered trousers, a black knit and no other metal, letting the green sheen be the only reflective thing you have on. The evening alternative: a dark green or charcoal midi skirt with opaque tights and a black jacket, where the shoe picks up the skirt tone and shifts against it as you move. Avoid competing metallics and bright colours. Air Max silhouettes generally fit true to size with a roomy forefoot. Wipe with a soft damp cloth after wear, never machine wash, and store in a dust bag so the metallic finish is not scuffed by other shoes.
Air Max models are recorded in Nike's own history as staples of mainstream American youth dress, alongside Air Jordans and Air Force 1s, absorbed first through 1980s urban and hip hop fashion and then again through the casual and athleisure styling of the 1990s and 2000s. What the Air Max contributed specifically was the idea that the mechanism should be visible, which turned engineering into an aesthetic. A women's silhouette in an oil slick metallic green pushes that logic one step further: the shoe is now entirely a surface event, and the cushioning is the reason the surface has a shape worth catching light.
An iridescent finish changes what the upper is doing. Instead of blocking colour across panels, the shoe reflects differently as the light moves, so the surface treatment carries the design and the panel structure recedes. That only works if the underlying shape is clean enough not to break the reflection. Underneath sits the Air family's principle, a pressurised gas unit sealed in the midsole and made visible, which the Air Max line established in 1987 and never gave up, descended in turn from Bowerman's conviction that the sole is engineered first. Metallic surfaces are fragile: clean with a soft damp cloth only, never a stiff brush, never solvent, and keep the pair out of abrasive contact that will dull the sheen.
