Culture Note™
Designed by Nic Galway and part of the PureBoost line. This release has a mesh upper in Cloud White/Cloud White/Crystal White. PureBoost was the model that argued Boost did not need a supporting cast. When adidas launched the material in its running range in 2013, having developed it with German chemical company BASF, most of the early shoes wrapped it in cages, plastic and structure. PureBoost stripped that away and let the midsole be the shoe, which is why it ended up worn by people who had no intention of racing anything. The 22 generation continues that argument. Triple White removes even the colour blocking, so what you are left with is a white knit upper on a white Boost midsole and the pellet texture of the material as the only surface interest. It is the most honest way to sell a foam.
Recipe one: light grey sweat shorts with a white tee for warm weather, where an all white shoe reads clean rather than clinical because the knit softens the edges. Recipe two: cream or stone chinos with a pale blue shirt, using the white sole as the base of a summer neutral outfit. This is a daily wear and long walking shoe more than a serious training one, since the soft ride is comfortable but not particularly controlling. Knit uppers run snug at first and relax, so stay true to size. White Boost yellows with UV exposure, so store them out of sunlight, clean the midsole with a melamine sponge and mild soap, and spot clean the knit rather than soaking it.
Running is where adidas began, with Adolf Dassler making event specific shoes by hand in Herzogenaurach and the brothers persuading sprinter Jesse Owens to wear their spikes at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Boost is the modern equivalent of that technical seriousness, and it moved into lifestyle wear on its own, carrying the Ultraboost, the NMD, Energy Boost and adizero Adios Boost with it. adidas has always been willing to make a technology the product's whole personality, from the adidas 1 of 2005 with a microprocessor performing five million calculations a second, to springblade replacing foam with splayed blades. Triple White PureBoost is the calmest version of that instinct.
Boost is a thermoplastic polyurethane made from thousands of pellets fused together, and its bounce comes from how the material is processed rather than from the raw polymer, which is why it returns more energy than the industry standard EVA foam and behaves more consistently as temperatures change. On PureBoost the midsole runs full length with minimal caging, so you feel the pellets compress underfoot. The upper is a knit that stretches with the foot instead of holding it in panels, with the Three Stripes integrated as support bands rather than applied as decoration. In Triple White the entire structure is one tone, which makes the shoe read soft and sculptural and also means dirt has nowhere to hide.
