Released on 3 August 2023 and part of the React Infinity Run line. This release has a flyknit upper in Black/Dark Grey/White. Black with white is the working uniform of daily running, and on the Infinity Run it does something specific: it splits the shoe visually, keeping the tall midsole pale and the upper dark, so a very large platform stops looking enormous. That matters, because this shoe is deliberately big. The Infinity line was built around durability of the runner rather than speed of the run, with a wide base, a high stack of foam and a rocker profile aimed at people who want to keep training without breaking down. The fourth version runs on ReactX, Nike's reworked daily training foam, which is the least glamorous and most used technology the company makes.
Two ways to use them. First, as designed: easy daily miles and long runs, where the wide base and high stack keep your legs fresher at the end of a session than a firmer shoe would. Second, off the road entirely, for long standing shifts, travel and city days, where the rocker does more work than any lifestyle sneaker. Size true with a thumbnail of room, and use the last eyelet if your heel lifts. Rotate with a second pair so the foam decompresses. Clean the white midsole early and often with mild soap and a soft brush, dry insoles separately after wet runs, and never put a foam midsole through a washing machine.
By 1980 Nike held roughly half of the US athletic shoe market and went public, and it got there on shoes like this one rather than on anything a champion wore. The company that moved to its Beaverton headquarters in 1990 and opened the first Niketown in Portland that same year was selling to commuters and weekend runners at scale. Nike Grind, the programme that takes manufacturing scrap and worn shoes back into new product and playing surfaces, exists because of that volume, since daily trainers are the shoes that pile up fastest. A plain black and white high-mileage trainer puts you in the middle of that market, which is where Nike has always actually lived.
Stability here comes from shape rather than from correction devices. A broad platform under heel and forefoot limits how far the foot can roll, a deep foam stack absorbs repeated impact, and the rocker helps the foot move through the stride instead of relying on the shoe to bend. The upper is a knit that wraps the midfoot and holds without pressure points, an idea Nike proved with Flywire when it showed a foot could be locked down with tension rather than layers. ReactX is tuned for daily mileage rather than race day return, so the ride is even and protective. The black upper hides road grime, while the white midsole will show every scuff it collects.
