Released on 4 January 2024 and part of the ReactX Infinity Run line. This release has a flyknit upper in Photon Dust/White/Saturn Gold/Deep Royal Blue. Photon Dust is a pale, cool grey, and paired with Royal Pink it gives the Infinity Run 4 a summer morning palette rather than a winter one. That is a real difference on a daily trainer, because this is the shoe you own in numbers and rotate through seasons. The Infinity platform sits at the cushioned, stability leaning end of Nike's range, built around width and absorption rather than the tipped forward geometry of a plated racer. It answers the oldest question in the company: Bill Bowerman started Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964 importing shoes because he thought runners were being given equipment that hurt them, and injury reduction is still the brief a shoe like this is judged against.
Running: pair with black or grey shorts and a plain top, and let Royal Pink appear once more in a hair tie, cap or watch strap rather than in a matching outfit, which reads as considered instead of coordinated. Casual: light denim or cream joggers with a white tee, where Photon Dust works as a neutral. This is a high mileage shoe for easy runs, long runs and daily walking, not a session shoe. Size half up from your casual length if you run over an hour. Clean by hand only, cool water, mild soap and a soft brush on the knit, insole removed, air dried in shade so the pale grey does not yellow near a heat source.
The women's and lighter colour end of Nike's running line is not a marketing afterthought. The brand has sponsored track athletes including Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Allyson Felix, and Serena Williams has endorsed it through the period when Nike was arguing loudest about who sport belongs to, including her public support when the company built a long term campaign around Colin Kaepernick from September 2018. Beneath the sponsorship sits the message the company has run since Just Do It first aired on 1 July 1988 with 80 year old runner Walt Stack: the shoe is for whoever is willing to go out, not just for whoever is fast.
The ReactX foam this generation is named after is a resilient compound built for repeated loading, and the Infinity's midsole is broad through the heel and midfoot, giving the underfoot stability that defines the model. The engineered knit upper in Photon Dust is light and breathable, with Royal Pink used as accent on the Swoosh, lace and heel detailing rather than as a base, which keeps the shoe wearable outside a run. The rounded, padded collar wraps the ankle rather than gripping it. The practical trade off of a pale grey knit is dirt: road spray and dust settle into the weave quickly and never quite brush out, so plan on cleaning it more often than a dark pair.
