Released on 3 August 2023 and part of the ReactX Infinity Run line. This release has a flyknit upper in White/Fuchsia Dream/Blue Lightning/Black. Mix and Match is exactly what the name promises, an SE treatment that puts deliberately mismatched materials and colour blocks on a stability focused running shoe. Nike has always treated running as its home discipline, because that is literally where it began: Bill Bowerman coached track at the University of Oregon and co founded Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964 with his former runner Phil Knight, importing Japanese shoes because he thought American runners deserved lighter ones. He then made his own outsole by pouring rubber into his wife's waffle iron, producing the tread behind the 1972 Moon Shoe and the 1974 Waffle Trainer. The Infinity Run line is the modern descendant of that impulse, built around keeping runners running.
Run one: easy daily mileage, pair with a Dri-FIT tee and shorts, and use them for the recovery and steady runs where stability matters more than speed. Run two: everyday standing and walking, with joggers and a hoodie, since the wide base makes these genuinely comfortable off the road. Not a race day shoe and not a trail shoe. Fit runs snug through the knit collar, and running shoes generally want a thumbnail of space at the toe, so size accordingly. Care: rotate pairs so the foam recovers between runs, never machine wash, remove the insole to dry, and replace when the midsole stops rebounding rather than when the upper looks worn.
Running is where Nike's credibility keeps getting tested and renewed. Its ZoomX and carbon plate work in the Vaporfly, launched in 2017, was significant enough that peer research found it could improve marathon times by up to 4.2 percent, and World Athletics responded on 31 January 2020 with rules capping sole thickness at 40mm, limiting shoes to one rigid plate and requiring general retail availability. Daily trainers like this one exist below that argument, doing the unglamorous mileage. The brand's voice for that work has been Just Do It since 1988, whose first ad starred 80 year old runner Walt Stack, which remains the most honest casting the company ever did.
The title names the platform: ReactX is Nike's foam, and the Infinity Run geometry pairs it with a wide base and a raised, supportive midsole that limits how far the foot rolls at footstrike. That combination is why this shoe feels tall and stable rather than fast. The upper is a knit with a supportive collar and internal structure, and the SE version varies materials and colour block placement across the shoe. Nike's foam engineering runs the full spectrum, from Lunarlite as a lightweight foam to ZoomX, its altered Pebax foam used in the Vaporfly, which is the lightest and most responsive in the range. This is the durable end of that spectrum, not the racing end.
