Released on 3 August 2023 and part of the ReactX Infinity Run line. This release has a flyknit upper in White/Light Lemon Twist/Volt/Black. Nike's racing shoes get the headlines, but the company was built on the unglamorous problem of keeping ordinary runners running. That was Bill Bowerman's whole complaint in 1964, when he and Phil Knight started Blue Ribbon Sports selling imported Japanese shoes from a car at Oregon track meets: American runners were being given heavy, poorly made options and were paying for it. The Infinity Run line is the modern version of that concern, a supportive, high mileage trainer rather than a fast one. This fourth ReactX edition comes in white with a light lemon twist, which reads bright and clean without the neon aggression of a racing colourway.
Two uses. Base building: leggings or shorts, a light long sleeve, and this on repeat for the easy and long runs where stability matters more than pace. Standing day: cropped trousers with a white tee and a cardigan, since a white shoe with a pale accent behaves like a sneaker rather than obvious gym kit. Take your usual running size and check the width, because supportive platforms feel broader than neutral shoes. Rotate it with a second pair so the foam recovers between runs, avoid wet trails that will stain the pale upper, and replace it when the ride feels dead rather than when the mesh looks worn.
Just Do It, written by Dan Wieden in 1988, launched on 1 July with an 80 year old runner named Walt Stack, and Advertising Age later named it one of the five best slogans of the twentieth century, with the campaign preserved in the Smithsonian. Steve Prefontaine, the company's first track endorser, gave running its attitude and still stands as a statue at the Beaverton headquarters, but the daily trainer is where the slogan actually gets tested, in the miles nobody watches. This shoe belongs to that audience: consistency over speed.
A support oriented daily trainer is built wide and stable: a broad platform under the foot, a rockered feel that helps you roll forward when your form is tiring, and an upper with enough hold to stop the foot sliding off the base. Nike's foam history runs from Lunarlite, a lightweight everyday foam, to ZoomX at the racing end, with the everyday shoes tuned for durability instead of return. The white and pale lemon combination is the challenge here, because pale midsoles pick up road film quickly. Hand clean it with a soft brush and mild soap, keep it out of the machine, and let it dry naturally so the foam and glue lines survive.
