Designed by Bruce Kilgore and part of Nike's Air Force 1 line. This release has a leather upper in White/University Blue. The Air Force 1 is the shoe that stopped being about basketball and became about maintenance, presentation and taste, and Nike has spent decades finding new surfaces to put on a shape it cannot redesign. This Essential build takes the women's '07 and covers it in University Blue gingham, which is a genuinely unusual move: gingham is a domestic textile pattern with no sport history at all, borrowed from tablecloths, summer dresses and school uniforms. Setting it on the most urban silhouette in the catalogue creates the tension the shoe is selling. Style code DZ2784 100 identifies the build. University Blue keeps a thread back to American sport colour naming, so the reference is soft but not sentimental.
Utility

Construction
The Air Force 1 chassis stays fixed: a thick panel upper on a tall cupsole with a Nike Air unit sealed inside the midsole, pressurised gas cushioning that has been the company's core technology since long before it became a visible design feature on the 1987 Air Max. Essential builds are where Nike varies material rather than structure, so the interest is entirely in the gingham treatment across the panels and how the check aligns with the seams. A woven or printed check on a curved leather panel is harder to execute than a flat colour, because the pattern has to survive the shaping, and a badly aligned check is immediately visible. In this palette, white grounds the shoe and the blue check carries it.
