Released on 23 March 2025 and part of the P-6000 line. This release has a mesh upper in Phantom/College Grey/Metallic Summit White/Mink Brown. Nike's running archive is deep because the company started there: Bill Bowerman coached track at the University of Oregon and believed American runners deserved lighter, better shoes than the domestic market was making, which is the entire reason Blue Ribbon Sports existed from 1964. The P-6000 belongs to the turn-of-the-millennium chapter of that archive, when running shoes went sculptural, layered and slightly futuristic before anyone called it a look. This women's pair runs Phantom with Mink Brown, a pale off-grey base warmed by a soft mushroom brown. It takes a shoe designed to look technical and gives it the palette of a cashmere scarf.
Phantom and mink brown is a soft neutral pairing that flatters relaxed shapes. Recipe one: cream wide-leg sweatpants, an oatmeal knit and a long camel coat, a full warm-neutral outfit where the shoe supplies the only visible structure. Recipe two: grey tailored trousers cropped at the ankle, a white shirt and a brown leather belt, letting a technical runner do the work of a loafer. The P-6000 fits close to true to size but sits snug over the instep because of the layered overlays, so loosen the laces rather than sizing up. Brush the mesh dry, spot clean the overlays gently, and protect both before wear since pale neutrals mark instantly.
Nike's cultural entry ran through track first, with Steve Prefontaine, Bowerman's pupil at Oregon, becoming the first track endorser and the brand's enduring symbol of running as attitude rather than sport, commemorated with a statue at headquarters. The archive he anchored became a wardrobe long after the fact, when Nike's sport models moved through urban and hip hop fashion in the 1980s and then into 1990s and 2000s casual and athleisure looks. Millennium-era runners are the latest section of that archive to be rediscovered, worn now for the layered silhouette rather than for anything to do with mileage, which is a fate Bowerman would have found extremely funny.
The P-6000 is a layered runner: a mesh base with synthetic and suede-effect overlays stitched over the top, wrapping the foot in strips rather than in panels, with a shaped foam midsole and a segmented outsole underneath. That layered upper is why the silhouette looks busy in a single colour and resolves in a two-tone treatment like this one, where Phantom takes the base and Mink Brown lifts the overlays. Nike's lightweight materials thinking sits behind the whole category, from Lunarlite foam to Flywire cables that hold the foot with minimal upper material. Expect a soft, low-drama ride and a shoe that is far lighter than its visual bulk suggests.
