Origin
Designed by Kanye West and released on 22 February 2020 as part of the Yeezy Boost 350 line. This release has a primeknit upper in Earth/Earth/Earth. Earth is the colourway that says out loud what the whole palette had been implying. The label built its identity on monochrome tones named after materials and terrain, Pirate Black, Oxford Tan, Turtle Dove, Moonrock, Beluga, Desert Rat, and Earth simply removes the metaphor and states the source. On the Boost 350 V2 it lands as a warm mid brown that looks like it was dug rather than dyed, which makes it one of the few colourways in the family that gets better as it gets dirty. The model launched on 24 September 2016 and became the most recognisable sneaker outline of its decade, so a colourway this plain is a statement of confidence: the shape is doing all the talking.
Utility
Warm brown is an underused sneaker colour and it rewards earthy dressing. First recipe: olive fatigue trousers with a cuffed hem, a cream tee, a tan cap, so the shoe sits inside a coherent outdoor palette. Second recipe: dark indigo denim, a rust knit, no visible socks, which lets the brown read as intentional rather than as a substitute for black. The 350 V2 turned release day into a mainstream cultural event, and the scarcity model behind it produced queue culture, bot buying and a resale economy that the rest of the footwear industry adopted wholesale. GQ named these the most influential sneakers in 2016. Earth toned colourways are the ones that outlived the hype, because they were bought by people who intended to wear them rather than store them. The story ended on 25 October 2022, when adidas terminated the partnership after Kanye West's antisemitic public remarks, which the company stated were unacceptable, hateful and dangerous and violated its values.
Construction
Primeknit forms the upper, the one piece machine knitted construction that gives the 350 V2 its sock like fit with no traditional panels, and Earth runs a single warm brown across it so the knit's own structure supplies the only texture. Boost sits underneath, the expanded TPU pellet foam that gives the model its bounce and its speckled surface, toned here rather than left bright so the shoe reads as one continuous object from collar to ground. There is no visible logo. In practical terms this is the most forgiving pale-adjacent colourway in the family, because a warm mid brown absorbs city dust instead of displaying it, unlike Butter, Sesame or Natural.
