The 700 V2 is the refinement of the shape that arrived as Wave Runner on 12 August 2017 and made the heavy retro runner mainstream. Where the original wore its panelling like exposed engineering, the V2 smooths the lines and lets the bulk read as one continuous form. Mauve is the colourway that suits that revision best, a dusty purple grey that could have come out of the same naming instinct as Moonrock and Desert Rat, describing a weathered condition rather than a bright colour. It is a genuinely unusual choice for a shoe this size, because purple normally becomes the entire story. Here the tone is muted enough that the silhouette still leads and the colour is the second thing you notice.
Dusty purple needs a cool, muted base or it turns costume. First recipe: charcoal wide leg trousers with a slight stack at the hem, a grey crew, a black jacket, letting the mauve sit as a quiet warm point in a cool fit. Second recipe: washed black denim, a cream tee, a grey overshirt, which brings out the pink in the tone without amplifying it. Avoid navy and avoid brown, both of which flatten it. Occasion: daytime, cooler weather, long walking days. 700s tend to run large, so try true to size and consider half down. Care: brush nap sections dry, never soak them, foam clean the mesh, and use a protectant before first wear because dusty tones stain visibly.
The 700 family is where the line's influence on silhouette is clearest: within a couple of seasons the oversized runner had spread across every tier of the market. Behind that sat the release model Yeezy built, limited stock and announced drop times generating queues, bot buying and a resale economy the industry adopted. Forbes in 2020 described the commercial arc as one of the great retail stories of the century, and the line was worth roughly two billion dollars a year to adidas at its height. adidas terminated the partnership on 25 October 2022 after Kanye West's antisemitic public remarks, which it stated were unacceptable, hateful and dangerous.
The V2 keeps the layered upper of the 700 family, panels of differing texture assembled over each other, but arranges them so the transitions are less abrupt than on the original. Boost sits below, the expanded TPU pellet foam that gives the line its bounce and its speckled look, and on Mauve the midsole is toned into the same dusty register instead of contrasting. There is no visible logo anywhere. On foot you get real weight, a wide planted platform and a roomy toe box, which makes it one of the more comfortable shoes in the catalogue for standing and walking. Mixed textures mean mixed care, so nap sections and mesh sections have to be treated separately.
