Released on 1 October 2023 and part of Nike's ZoomX Streakfly line. This release has a mesh upper in Black/White/Sail/Metallic Gold Grain. The Streakfly is Nike's argument that not every fast shoe needs a carbon plate. While the Vaporfly and Alphafly built their reputation on ZoomX foam paired with a full length carbon plate, the Streakfly strips the formula back for 5k and 10k distances where turnover matters more than propulsion. Black with Metallic Gold Grain is the most serious looking version of it, a stealth upper with a metal finish that only shows when the light moves. Nike has been chasing this exact idea since 1964, when Bill Bowerman started Blue Ribbon Sports because he thought American runners deserved lighter shoes than the domestic market offered.
Use it where it belongs. Track intervals, 5k and 10k races and tempo work reward the low stack and the light upper, worn with the thinnest socks you own and nothing that adds bulk. The second use is race day for anyone who prefers ground feel to a rolling plate. Take your usual race size and expect a close, no spare room fit. Black with gold also survives a wet road better than a white racer, which matters through monsoon. Rotate it with a cushioned daily trainer so the ZoomX gets recovery time, air dry after wet runs, and never machine wash: the foam and the thin mesh both degrade under agitation and heat.
Nike's track lineage is deep and specific: Steve Prefontaine was its first track athlete endorser and still has a statue at headquarters, and the company later sponsored Sebastian Coe, Carl Lewis, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Michael Johnson and Allyson Felix. Short distance racing is the discipline closest to that history, where the shoe's job is to get out of the way. The modern racing era also brought regulation: World Athletics issued rules on 31 January 2020 capping sole thickness at 40mm, permitting one rigid plate and requiring general retail availability. An unplated low stack racer sits comfortably inside those limits and reminds you that the sport was fast before carbon arrived.
A thin engineered mesh upper cut low to save weight, with almost no overlay structure, so the fit comes from the pattern rather than from added material. That is the same design instinct that produced Flywire, holding the foot with cables instead of layers. The midsole is ZoomX, Nike's altered Pebax foam and the lightest and most responsive in its range, run at a lower stack than the marathon shoes so you stay connected to the road. Black across the upper hides road spray, and the Metallic Gold Grain detailing on branding and trim is what stops it disappearing entirely. Outsole rubber is placed only where wear occurs, keeping weight down at the cost of longevity.
