Designed by Peter Moore and released on 11 July 2022 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a synthetic upper in White/Crater Purple/Black. Zoom Comfort is what happens when Jordan Brand admits that most people wearing a Jordan 1 are walking, not cutting. It keeps the high top silhouette Peter Moore drew with Bruce Kilgore, then rebuilds everything below the upper for daily comfort. Crater Purple gives it a colour story that matches the intent: a muted, speckled leaning purple that looks contemporary rather than archival, nothing like the Chicago red, black and white palette the line uses as its house colours. This is the Jordan 1 for someone who wants the outline and the ankle without the flat, unforgiving ride that the original pattern has carried since 1985.
Purple wants neutral company. Grey wide leg trousers with a black or cream sweatshirt lets the colour sit as the single interesting element, and the high collar looks best where the trouser stacks slightly or stops just above it. For a bolder read, black tailored trousers and a black knit turns the shoe into the only colour you are wearing. Avoid navy, which muddies purple. Size to your usual Jordan 1 High and expect noticeably more cushioning than a Retro gives, which makes this the pair for long days on foot. Clean gently and store boxed away from sunlight.
The Jordan 1 stopped being a performance shoe decades ago and became a design object with an enormous audience, anchoring a resale market valued at roughly two billion dollars while the brand itself, a Nike division since 1997, generated about 5.1 billion dollars in 2022. Comfort focused rebuilds are the practical response to that: the silhouette is worn constantly by people who never played in it. Jordan Brand's collaborators, from Off-White under Virgil Abloh to Comme des Garcons and KAWS, spent years pushing the model further into fashion, and a cushioned everyday version is the logical end of that journey.
The upper follows the Jordan 1 language, the layered panels, the tall collar and the Wings mark, but the platform changes completely: Zoom cushioning replaces the plain cupsole feel, giving a more responsive, softer ride and a slightly taller stance. That is the entire reason this model exists and it is what you notice within the first hour of wear. Purple panels read differently in daylight and shade, so the shoe looks tonal outdoors and richer indoors. Care is the same as any leather led Jordan 1: brush after wear, sponge the midsole, condition occasionally, and keep the pair out of long sunlight, which dulls purple faster than most colours.
