Royal Toe applies the Low's three zone colour blocking in royal blue, black and white and then builds the shoe for turf. Royal blue is one of the oldest accent colours in the line, dating to the first year of Air Jordan 1 colourways, when Nike was still establishing a rookie's identity after signing him on 26 October 1984 with a royalty attached to a six year, 2.5 million dollar deal. Taking that arrangement onto a golf course is a deliberate collision: a palette from the shoe's first season, on an outsole made for grass. It is the clearest example of Jordan Brand using its archive to enter a category it has no history in.
Colour blocked golf shoes want plain kit. White technical trousers with a black quarter zip lets the royal blue be the only colour on the course. For a warmer round, stone shorts and a navy polo keeps things coordinated without matching the shoe exactly. Off the course it functions as a normal Low with denim, though the outsole is wasted on pavement. Wear a technical sock for grip. Brush the outsole clean while dirt is still damp, wipe the white panels down after every round, and dry the pair fully before storing so the lining does not hold moisture.
Jordan Brand's move into new categories is well documented: it became sole equipment provider to the Michigan Wolverines football team in 2016 and sponsored Paris Saint Germain, its first association football club, in 2018, all as a division of Nike rather than an independent company. Golf fits that pattern and adds something the others do not, a sport with a dress code that street footwear has historically been kept out of. Turning a 1985 basketball colour arrangement into course legal footwear is a status move as much as a product one.
The upper is recognisably the 1 Low, with separately stitched toe cap, eyestay, quarter and Swoosh keeping the blue to black break sharp. Everything functional is underneath: a golf specific outsole with traction geared to turf rather than hardwood, and a closer fit through the midfoot for lateral stability through a swing. Expect some water resistance appropriate to early morning grass, though this is not a wet weather boot. Do not wear it on concrete, since a turf pattern wears down quickly on hard surfaces. Clean grass and soil off the outsole before it dries and wipe the white midsole after each round.
