Designed by Peter Moore and released on 14 September 2024 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Midnight Navy/Black/White/Sail. Midnight Navy is the Retro High OG done in the deepest blue the brand uses, dark enough to read as black until light hits it. In grade school sizing it is the shape at its most faithful and its most accessible at once. The Air Jordan 1 was designed by Peter Moore with Bruce Kilgore, made for Michael Jordan on 17 November 1984 and released publicly on 1 April 1985, after Nike signed him for six years and about 2.5 million dollars including a royalty on sales, roughly three times any other NBA contract of the time. Retro High OG means the original tall collar, the Wings logo and the panel structure that every later colourway is measured against.
Navy behaves like a neutral, so build around it freely. Indigo denim and a white tee makes a tonal blue outfit where the shoe anchors the bottom, while grey sweats and a navy hoodie give a colder, more considered version of the same idea. Avoid pairing it with pure black clothing, since navy next to black usually looks like a mistake rather than a choice. Lace fully for the true High stance, or leave the top eyelets open to let the collar fall. Grade school sizing runs below adult numbering, so convert before buying. A dark High OG is the version of all that history you can wear on a school day.
This sits before the Nike Air cushioning that entered the line with the Air Jordan II, so the ride is a stitched rubber cupsole with firm foam, low and direct. The High OG cut runs the collar above the ankle with a padded tongue and the full eyelet row, which is why it holds the foot properly when fully laced. Deep navy is the most forgiving colour in this line after black: it hides creasing, scuffs and dust, and it takes a rain shower better than white does. The white contrast areas will age faster than the navy and become your visual wear gauge. Grade school builds follow the adult layout at reduced scale, so proportions carry.
