Designed by Peter Moore and released on 12 October 2021 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in White/White/Bronze Eclipse. Team Red is the colour the brand uses when it wants the Chicago register without the full Chicago costume. Red, black and white function as Jordan Brand colours in their own right, the way the number 23 and the Jumpman do, so a red Low is instantly placed even by people who cannot name the model. The Low cut is the version of the 1 that left the court entirely: same panels Peter Moore and Bruce Kilgore laid down for the 1985 release, cut below the ankle so it behaves like an everyday shoe. In a women's build, that combination is the most wearable form the silhouette takes.
Two ways to wear it. First, straight leg white or ecru denim with a black tee, so the red reads as a deliberate accent and the white base ties to the trouser. Second, a black slip or midi skirt with a grey sweatshirt, the Low keeping the ankle visible so the outfit does not get cut short. Lows suit warm weather and long days better than Highs, and this palette is easy to build around because red pairs with black, white, cream and denim without thought. Clean the white panels weekly, protect before first wear, and keep the pair out of standing water during rains.
The 1's cultural weight came from two directions at once. Nike's advertising, directed by Spike Lee with Lee on screen as Mars Blackmon, made it a character in film language, and hip hop kept it in circulation, with 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z all referencing Jordan and his sneakers. The Banned campaign around the NBA's 51 percent white shoe rule, which Nike answered by paying the per game fine, is where red first became a statement colour for the brand. Jordan Brand's signed WNBA athletes include Maya Moore and Jordin Canada, the roster context for a women's pair.
Cutting the collar below the ankle removes the 1's most restrictive feature and changes its proportions completely. You get quick on and off, free ankle movement and a low stance that suits cropped and full length hems alike. Team Red overlays against a white base keep the panel seams visible, so the shoe still reads as a 1 rather than a generic red sneaker, and the white base gives the red somewhere to sit. White panels next to strong red carry one risk: dye transfer from wet clothing and from cheap red laces. Keep the pair dry, wipe the white the same day it marks, and never put it through a wash cycle.
